VA-DSA works to change public policy in Virginia to remove obstacles that prevent families, businesses, local governments, and schools from installing small-scale clean energy that’s generated right where it’s used in communities across Virginia.
VA-DSA is pursuing four main initiatives:
- Leading the fight against interconnection and net metering barriers erected by big monopoly electric utilities through regulatory action at the Virginia State Corporation Commission
- Fighting to streamline permitting for rooftop solar projects by local building officials through proposed changes to the Virginia Building Code
- Supporting efforts to increase the value of Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) by advancing efforts to encourage data centers to purchase Virginia Distributed Generation SRECs and to increase the “carve-out” for Distributed Generation in Virginia’s Renewable Portfolio Standard through legislation
- Spearheading legislation with Senator Skyler VanValkenburg (16th District) and Delegate Dan Helmer (40th District) to establish a Distributed Energy Resources Task Force to advance local clean energy in Virginia
